Our History

The congregation of Harbor Baptist Church held their first service on Resurrection Sunday in 1975. The church is still located on the same property where it began at 5801 Old Concord Road. Adjacent property was purchased in 1999, and a modern Family Life Center was completed in 2005. 

Harbor Baptist Church has operated a Bus Ministry for many years, providing transportation to those who have no other way to come to church. Over 300 people per week ride to church on one of our busses. Our Hispanic Church, which began in 2001, continues to offer four services a week in the Spanish language. Since its beginning, the church has placed a primary emphasis on preaching the Gospel, teaching the Gospel, sharing the Gospel through personal evangelism, and sending the Gospel around the world through Faith Promise Missions.

The current Pastor of our church, Dr. J. R. Farrington, moved to Charlotte on January 4, 1993, and began his duties at the church the following day. Dr. Farrington is a second-generation minister, following in the footsteps of his Father. He is a seasoned Pastor who began in the Gospel Ministry on the first Sunday of July in 1976. He is a strict Biblicist, insisting that all teaching and preaching come directly from the 1611 King James Bible. Our Pastor is the Founder of GO WIN Ministries and sits on the Board of Hope International Ministries, which includes Hope Children’s Home in Tampa, Florida.

Our church is a multicultural church with members who have moved to Charlotte from all over the world. Everyone is welcome at Harbor Baptist Church, because everyone is welcome in the family of God. Our Pastor and our entire Church Staff count it an honor to minister to people of various races and backgrounds. Through an aggressive, evangelistic outreach, the church is reaching hundreds for Christ each year in the Charlotte area. Thousands more are coming to Christ each year through the efforts of Missionaries and National Pastors supported directly by our church.

Harbor Baptist Church has been known throughout its history as an Independent, Fundamental, Bible Believing, Bible Preaching, Baptist Church. As we remain faithful to the doctrines and principles of the Word of God, it is also our desire to be known as “A Harbor of Hope in the Heart of Charlotte”.
